How it connects: you paste your own Semrush API key. Use a v3 key for the older reports and a v4 key for the newer Backlinks and Keyword reports. You find it under Subscription info > API Units in Semrush. There is no sign-in step and no scope setting, so the key carries your account's full API unit balance.
You need a plan with API access and a purchased API unit package. Copy your API key from there.
you see: Semrush shows the active key once you have bought an API unit package.
you see: A short field asking for the key. Nothing is contacted yet.
you see: Reads on the left: rankings, competitors, backlinks and keyword data. On the right, no writes are available.
There are no writes for this connector, so nothing waits for your yes.
you see: A row for each read, all running on their own.
you see: A sentence naming the reads granted, and a confirm button.
Semrush ties API access to a paid plan and a separate package of API units. Its developer docs name the Business plan of the SEO Toolkit, and its pricing page may name the plan differently, so check both before you buy.
Semrush's API usage restrictions page says up to 10 requests per second and up to 10 simultaneous requests per account, across all Standard API methods.
Most SEO reports are billed per line of response, and historical data costs more than live data. For example, the Domain Organic Keywords report costs 10 units per line live and 50 per line historical.
This connector is read only. It cannot create or delete Semrush projects, or manage your API key or units.
Organic keyword data can include daily rankings for the last 31 days and monthly history further back. Each read asks Semrush at the moment Protuno needs it.
The most common cause is a depleted API unit balance. Semrush requests fail once the account's purchased units run out, so Protuno reports a pull failure until more units are bought.
Capability names and default settings (on its own or ask first) are Protuno's own, and they can change as the product develops. Playbook plan, schedule and date come from Protuno's agent pages. Protuno last confirmed this connector's build status on 13 Oct 2026. Vendor limits and permissions on this page follow the vendor's public documentation as reviewed on 13 Oct 2026. The vendor's own page is the final word.
